I printed out the checklist from Polya's How To Solve It and started referring to it whenever I sat down to work. I never read the rest of the book. I tore the whole thing apart, the fragile thing I had spent years patching, the thing I had finally managed to get sort-of working, and rebuilt it from scratch.
